River Passage by Walton Butts- consigned . This serigraph (silkscreen) print was peviously matted and framed from a private collection.  The image is 22 x 17 as shown with commensurate aging from the mid-60’s when the print was created.

About the artist: Walton Butts was a prolific NW artist, specializing in serigraphy (screen printing) and specializing in depictions of coastal and country life in the Northwest. His works are much beloved because of the eloquence of their execution and the calmness of the compositions. Walton lived in Hoquiam, WA.

 

He enjoyed the serigraph process because it forced him to look and think in layers. some people are saying his artwork is fast becoming the Andy Warhol of the Pacific Northwest and his prints are becoming highly desirable.

 

Mr. Butts was born in 1922; he spent a number of years as an art teacher until he could survive on the income he earned from his art work. He lived for a number of years in Hoquiam, WA on Gray’s Bay, but passed away in 1996. He was a contemporary of well-known artist, Elton Bennett, whose style is very similar.
