Dee Hendrix- Artists in Action Gallery

Short Bio

Dee Hendrix, a native Oregonian living in the woods south of Salem, creates 2D art influenced by the region’s natural beauty. With degrees in both Fine Arts and Biology from Willamette University and studies in Natural Science Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design, Dee’s work is at times a blend of scientific precision and always one of artistic expression.

A multimedia artist, Dee creates artwork in ink, watercolor, pencil and pastel. Her work reflects a commitment to pushing artistic boundaries, exploring the interplay of colors, textures, and forms. Through experimentation with various mediums, she creates pieces that invite viewers to engage with the artwork, sharing the beauty and variety of flora and fauna found in the Pacific Northwest.

Dee’s botanical paintings reflect a connection forged through her academic background. The intersection of art and biology influences her artwork, capturing the essence of flora with a keen eye for detail and a dynamic palette. Dee’s landscape paintings, created with alcohol ink or pastels, embody an appreciation for the region’s ecological diversity. In her organic abstracts, Dee’s fusion of art and biology take on a new dimension. The fluid compositions reflect the beauty of nature, in a loose translation of science influencing an artistic creation.

Her journey as an artist, commercial artist, and graphic designer has led to the integration of diverse passions, creating a variety of work outside of traditional boundaries. Dee actively participates in the Salem/Keizer art community, contributing to exhibitions and collaborative projects. She embraces the values of environmental consciousness and sustainability. Her art intends to reflect the delicate balance between humanity and nature and invites viewers to explore the natural diversity of the Pacific Northwest.

Artist Statement:

As a native Oregonian, I draw inspiration from the beautiful landscapes and diverse flora and fauna that define the Pacific Northwest. My artistic journey reflects my relationship with our ever-changing and challenged natural environment.
With hawks and eagles overhead, bounty in my organic gardens and beautiful scenery in all corners, inspiration for my art is found outside; from my studio door, down a dirt path or at water’s edge.
My art is a process of experimentation and interpretation. I embrace a diverse range of mediums and techniques, working with alcohol inks, watercolor, pencil and pastel, which all contribute to the variety of my artistic endeavors.
The vibrant landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, plus the detail within, fuel my creativity. The play of light and shadow, the organic flow of forms and the use of multi-media contribute to my artistic expression. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of my creativity and experimenting with various techniques with every new piece of artwork.
My artistic journey is a continuous exploration, energized by the beauty of our region. Through my work, I hope to share the joy I find in our natural environment as it flows from my brush and creative spirit.
